Happy Hands Foundation is committed towards the revival of traditional/folk arts and crafts, empowering rural artisans, and building potential in women and young people to lead community development activities and craft entrepreneurship. 

In the fast-paced, globalised world today, the value of handmade products has been declining steadily. With over 200 crafts endangered, there’s a need for enhancing and developing perception of crafts amidst masses, in a more specialised way. The stories represented by the various communities and tribes need to be retold in today’s time, where a global culture is replacing the tradition we have held for thousands of years - a gift from our ancestors, and an important part of India’s cultural history.

About the Play:

‘Cheruvannur Diaries- Typewriter Tales’ is a narration of the experiences of a typewriter salesman in North Kerala in the ‘80s. Told in a simple way, it presents the stories of simple people, communities and institutions, which were nevertheless very colourful and engaging. It is also a tribute to a grand old product that was once upon a time, the nerve centre not only of offices, but of many other institutions and lives.

In situ_India paintings show by Kevin Todd

Kevin Todd is an artist and designer originally from Ireland and living in Australia since the early 1980s. He is a graduate of Sydney College of the Arts and the Tasmanian School of Art and currently SeniorLecturer in computer-based art and design at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. 

Kevin has exhibited and undertaken residencies and projects internationally including with the Australian Antarctic Division, the Australian Museum and the Australian Pulp and Paper Institute. In 1995 he spent a year in Malaysia on an Asialink fellowship and he has also been a visiting professor at the State University of New York and a visiting scholar at New York University. 

His art practice has two components; art-for-architecture where work is made/designed for a specific context and work for exhibition, which is generally more personal. A feature of his exhibition work has been a concern with limits of rationalism and the relationship between art, science and technology in Western culture. As the New Year approaches Vimochana  collaborated with 1.Shanthiroad and  has come out with it’s annual Desktop Calendar, a major source of fund-raising for it’s work on issues related to violence against women.

The theme for this year's Calendar is "At Home in the World: Women in Public Spaces" through which we want to celebrate the women who have fearlessly made themselves visible in public spaces, a space largely construed of as a masculine space. Six Bangalore-based photographers have contributed their stunning black and white images to the Calendar.

Asialink Residency

Weaving with the community- Daniel explored "Madras Checks"patterns from his colonial heritage.He used an ancestral architectural motif of a "Jaali", perforated window seen in Islamic and colonial architecture to construct his composition.He also interacted with locals with a weaving workshop.
