Suresh Jayaram is a visual artist and art historian from Bangalore.
He has a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore (1990). For his M.A. dissertation on K.K. Hebbar, he received the Nehru Small Study Grant.
He obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from M.S. University, Baroda in 1992 in Art Criticism.
Work experience-
He has been teaching Art History at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath since then.
He has exhibited his work individually and in group shows in India at Sakshi Gallery, Sumukha, Crimson art resource in Bangalore. In the India Habitat center New Delhi, Apparao Gallery- Chennai, and The Guild Gallery- Mumbai.
He has also curated shows on Indian contemporary art like “I me myself’’-self portraiture, Cityscapes, Movements in Indian Art.
International experience-
Designed logo and poster for Asian Women Human Rights Council in Beijing. Edited an international anthology of Quilts.
He was also Artist-in-Residence at the Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut (USA) in 1998.
He delivered an invited lecture at the Total Museum, Seoul, South Korea in 2003.
In 2004, the British Council selected him for the Charles Wallace India Trust award to work at the Gasworks Studios, London.
He is a curator, and has organized international workshops with cutting edge artists in India, like KHOJ. He has made corporate presentations on Indian art -and culture. He runs an alternative studio residency in Bangalore.
Expertise-
His writings have appeared in leading publications such as Art India, Marg, Nandan, Lalithkala Comtemporary, and others. He has also written many catalogs for contemporary artists. He was also a member of the Karnataka Lalithkala Academy during 2002-2004.He heads the art college in Bangalore as the Dean at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath.Bangalore.
He has conducted workshops for art writing and Art appreciation at IIM Bangalore at the Asian collage of journalism, Indian Institute of journalism and New Media-IIJNM
He has been supporting art incentives by NGO’s like Ashraya, Jagruthi, Concern India Foundation. Dr.Sudharshan at Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra.Vimochana.
He has conducted research and documentation on design for TITIAN.
Evaluated the corporate collection of Hindustan lever Ltd –HLL
Jury for awards at the Habitat Centre New Delhi, Camlin awards and KASHI awards.
Interests-
He is the founder Trustee of VAC-Visual art Collective,-1SHANTHIROAD STUDIO/GALLERY is a trust to promote visual art, international residency programme and art education. The studio-1.SHANTHIROAD has hosted Fullbright artists and artists from other countries. Promoting and curating up coming artists. Is passionate about nature and issues about environment,human rights,design,crafts,folk arts and cultural studies.
