We’re thrilled to announce the final program of films for the 14th edition of Monitor: Drifting with the Summer Tides.
To kick things off we would like to share a note from our guest curator Rasha Salti:

Sometimes curating is like building a puzzle where you have individual pieces, but the complete picture is for you to guess or make up.
The generous invitation from SAVAC to curate this forthcoming fourteenth edition of Monitor has felt close to that. The work conditions that the pandemic has imposed have perhaps amplified the loneliness of the overall process but watching the impressive number of submissions has also been salutary; each film was an occasion for reverie, drift, to another world, to the artist or filmmaker’s subjective, personal, and finely crafted world.
From drift to drift, the puzzle took the form of a musical composition, with the resonances of each film amplifying, bouncing, or harmonizing as they were strung together.
The proposed program could be described in movements, instead borrowing allegories from tides and waves seemed more apt, in reference to how they imagine, narrate, represent and re-articulate our being in the world within a living environment with relationships to land, water (rivers and oceans), fauna and flora; our being as carriers of memory and of a counter-memory of resistance; our being as carriers of ideology and of struggle.

The proposed program articulates along four tides: billowing tide, wave crest, breaker tide and ebbing wave.
