Lake on fire - Film by Jennifer Rainsford

Lake on fire is a short sci-fi film telling the story from a distant future of how two former lovers are reunited in a virtual forest created by an artificial intelligence. Flowers are talking, the forest is shifting colors while fighting virtual wars and the former couple realise they can't change the past. A subtle science fiction short film about regret and an A.I. only interested in humans for giving love advice.

The film is 15 minutes followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker.

Jennifer Rainsford is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Stockholm, Sweden. She was an artist in residence at Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery in 2018 through IASPIS. Her short films and installations have been shown at festivals such as Oberhausen, Berlinale, Rotterdam and CPH:DOX. She has also worked as a journalist and documentary filmmaker at the cult TV-show Tracks on Arte in Paris. Her latest film, 'Lake on fire' was selected for the main competition “Startsladden” at Gothenburg IFF 2020.

The collaboration between Paradise Air in Matsudo, Japan, and 1Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery Bangalore- India has been a mutual and reciprocal connection. We have had artists from both countries traveling and working in the residency context. In this process, we have had conversations across cultures.

The proposed group show will feature all three residents responding to our visit to Japan, through photographs, Videos, materials, crafts. Simultaneously our friends from Japan, from Paradise Air- Jumpei Mori. Shun Owada, Kenji Kodaira
are creating a show.

We wish to create an online dialogue simultaneously during our exhibition, that will continue to strengthen our relationship for further mutual collaboration and create this bridge between the artists in the contemporary art context.

The show opens on 23rd February Thursday 2021 and will be on display till 6th March Saturday 2021
