Photography Workshop By Arjun Swaminathan @1Shanthiroad Sept 25th and 26th 2010

Photography Workshop :

The program is about how to use your camera once you have understood the basics of it. What do I photograph? How do I build a theme or a story? How should I approach the subject?

Of course, I’ll speak about some basics about the camera and what it does, but the focus of the workshop will be towards the points mentioned below.

# Learning to see

# Develop a personal style of vision

# Genres of photography

# Tell stories of people and their cultures

# To photograph landscape and to explore the unseen landscape

# To develop a documentary project

# How to use your images to create a social awareness

# How to become familiar with the history and social context of the people

I will be having slide shows of different genres, photographers and a documentary film show as well to help participants better understand the process of image making and in order to view the natural world with fresh eyes.

This workshop is of two days. We will have a photo walk to identify and photograph potential themes for projects. The participants will be given assignments based on their subject interest, like for example, photo journalistic assignment, and after each shoot there will be a group critique and the entire class will have to participate in speaking about each other’s works.

I will be giving out handouts on various topics which one can read up for reference for the next day or future shoots. The cost for the entire program will be Rs 3500/- per participant.
